“The Tweed Run Tokyo 2015″ STYLE REPORT – Part 2

Here is the next installment in our Style Report on The Tweed Run Tokyo. While the last piece focused on classic jacket style, in this installment we look at unique coats and jackets with badges and patches, showcasing the individualistic and stylish tweed wearers we met. The way they matched their outfits to their bicycles was exquisite! Without further ado, let's see what these nine tweed enthusiasts had to offer.

“I took part as a spokesperson for the Takeo Kikuchi brand. This outfit is rooted in the idea of punk and rude boy style. I like Tokyo, but I especially enjoy the discoveries I make when riding a bike through the city, so this felt like the perfect event for me.”

“I borrowed this bike from my friend, Ken Tsuruta. It’s a BMX racer from 1981. Isn’t the orange frame cool?”

“I usually ride a bicycle, but this was my first time touring around with everyone — and it was a blast. I was also grateful to be taught the proper traffic rules for riding a bike. This is a great event to explore the city and get lots of new inspiration.”

Kenta Ito/ pediatrician

“I’d always been interested in this event, but there are usually lots of medical conferences at this time of year, so I could never make it. I finally made it out this year, which was great. The weather was also perfect, so it’s been a fun ride. I like checking out everyone’s outfits.”

“I take part in triathlons, so I’m often on a bike. This is one made by Testach. I tried to keep my clothes monotone to match the metal frame.”

Nagato Arika/ designer

yukimi_36246

“This is my third time coming out to The Tweed Run Tokyo. I feel like it’s getting more fun every year. Everyone was a bit embarrassed the first time around, but that quickly has given way to having a good time! I’m looking forward to doing it again next year.”

“The key accent in my outfit is this beret, which is made from vintage fabric. The fabric is thin, so even if I warm up after riding around on the bike, it wears cool.”

“I acted as a taxi and leader for event participants. I heard that this event is also held in London — it’s super cool that the idea of enjoying fashion and cycling is worldwide. All of my gear is by Nigel Cabourn. I love navy — I get super excited just wearing it. (laughs)”

“The bike is by Bombtrack, a German brand. It’s a track bike made by an established BMX manufacturer. All of the components are really high quality, and it’s a joy to ride.”

Kurachi: “I was always pretty interested in the run, but by the time I got around to applying, it was always over. (laughs) I finally decided to get my act together and get in on the game, so I want to make the most of it!”
Tanikawa: “Being able to enjoy people-watching, bike-watching, and fashion-watching all at once is interesting… I feel like you get a sense of each person’s personality.

Tanikawa: “My bicycle is by Livalo. I picked out and put together all of the parts, down to the company nameplate, so I feel all the more attached to it. (laughs)”

Kenya Sato / UNIT&GUEST

yukimi_36151

“It’s been awhile since I ride a bike, but it was super fun. I sure was glad they made this event. Everyone gets really into the fashion, too, so it was really exciting as someone in the apparel industry. We took part as a team, so we all wore the same jacket.”

yukimi_36180yukimi_36200

“The bicycle is by Oslo Bicycle Company and kind of resembles the jacket. Sweden is big in copper production, so the color matches that vibe.”

Yoshimura: “Touring with everyone was just awesome! I also liked checking out all the tweed fashions.”
Kanefuji: “We both wore tweed outfits woven in Bishu, Nagoya. We hope people will learn more about the charms of Bishu fabrics.

yukimi_36228yukimi_36231

Kanefuji: “Bishu fabric is soft and comfortable, so it’s easy to wear — it also looks great casually.”

Hirofumi Kurino/ UNITED ARROWS、The Tweed Run Tokyo executive committee chair

yukimi_36098

“I’m so glad to see that we had lots of participants and that the weather was so great. The course used to run through Chiyoda-ku, but this time we went through Daikanyama, Omotesando, and Harajuku — neighborhoods we know well from the fashion business. However, we picked routes that you normally wouldn’t take a bike on, so we were able to get a look at some relatively unknown parts of the city. I’m really pleased that our guests from overseas got this chance, too.”

yukimi_36105yukimi_36113

“My key accent is the ‘kiltie’ piece on the shoes I’m wearing. They recycle scrap parts of the leather when making the shoe and fashion them into this detail. This item was actually made by United Arrows and Takafumi Arai, who won the International Talent Support award. What I like best is that you can attach it to any laced pair of shoes.”
